The icon Club's Fall Award Ceremony
Okay we tried this during the summer and it didn't take off so I want to try it again and see what happens this time :). Okay this is going to be our first awards. One of the goals of this community for me is to share icons that we love and then share why we love them. :) It is a way to help us improve and learn from other people and eachother. This is going to be a bit different from other communities that give awards (and remember you can still post your icons and what not because this isn't an awards community just another thing we are doing). ( The categories are inside ) |

Coloring
 Why is my grayscale..like grayer than normal. LOL I know that sounds silly but you konw what I mean. Anyone have tips on desaturating that don't ruin the color or is it just my monitor resolution. :( |

Ready for our bi- monthly awards :)
Okay this is going to be our first awards. One of the goals of this community for me is to share icons that we love and then share why we love them. :) It is a way to help us improve and learn from other people and eachother. This is going to be a bit different from other communities that give awards (and remember you can still post your icons and what not because this isn't an awards community just another thing we are doing). Categories: Icon member of the month..nominate an outstanding icon maker within the LJ community at large. This can be a well-known icon maker or one that is a little less-known. Please post not a link to their journal and a sample icon so we get a feel for their work. You may also want to include why you love their icons (cropping, coloring, use of text whatever). Member of the Month: I need you guys to respond with a link to your icon journals if you post your icons in places other than your personal LJ. This is for a member that really stands out or you think has improved a lot or has given something to this community. Whatever. :) Also when you nominate post an icon sample and why you love this person as well. :) You guys have till Monday June 20, 2005 to comment with your icon journals. Monday night after work I plan to make a post with all of the members for reference. If you post your icons in your journal just comment saying that. :) These are the only two icon contests for now I thought we would start slow with this but I think it should be fun. Also, if you can think of any other categories that might be fun you can comment with suggestions for next time as well. :) Oh, all nominations are due by June 29, 2005. Happy iconing! :) |

A tip..and an icon to share..
What do you guys think of this icon? I'm really trying to improve on my text and stuff because you know I'm very hard on myself. I did learn if there is anyone else here that uses PSP to duplicate your image/place duplicate under the text/select the text/blur(this will blur the are under the image). This doesn't distort anything in the picture and it makes the text a lot less strange looking.  So what do you guys think of this one? ~Mela |

Okay, so the new theme at ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif?v=92.1) icon_crack is Summer. I made three icons, and I wanted to know your opinions on which I should use:  - Kaylee, Firefly - Veronica, Veronica Mars - Veronica and Duncan, Veronica MarsI don't really want to know how to improve them, just which I should submit. I'm leaning towards the Kaylee one. I don't like the second that much. I love three because of the subjects and how it came out, but I think the text is hard to read (it says "Summer Lovin" because I'm cheesy xD). I think I should submit the Kaylee one, but again, I adore the third as well. Do you guys think the text is that hard to read? |

Random question
If I were to buy Photoshop how much would it cost? I can't imagine it being to much harder to figure out considering I use mostly photoshop tutorials and such to do icons. Anyone know about how much? |

Tutorial - For PS
Thought I would re-post this here... This really doesn't take long, and I was so glad when I figured it out for myself. Sometimes I see graphics that have the potential to be really good, but don't quite work out because of the brightness of the picture... I don't like to criticise people's graphics, so I thought I'd write a simple tutorial to point them in the right direction. Best/Worst Icons
I did a set of icons with quotes from Macbeth, and I liked them at the time. Now that I've gotten better, I'm not such a fan. ( Read more... )I'm not so much with the text. |

Most embarrassing icon
Okay guys, I want you to dig out your old icons...maybe it was the first one you ever did maybe it was just a really silly idea but I want to see it. And then post an icon that you are really proud of :). Say why you think you've improved and and whatever..:). I just think it'll be cool. Also I think I might use this as a way to promote the community so I may post away for people to comment with their most embarrassing icons :). And yay we have two new members. So we are growing slowly but given time we will get bigger. I have so many I'm going to post more than one..enjoy  (Look Kate is a smurf!) BTW this was made about 5 weeks ago.  (Who told me that Blue was cool..LOL really I need help..that was in the same set as before) I have others that I'm really embarrassed about but these are the worst of them anyway here is my favorite icon that I have made.  He's only week old and I'm pretty sure I didn't use any tutorial for him (actually I think I started one and discared the effect half way). I loved the clouds texture that I decided to place in the back (btw it was just placed on multiply or overlay I believe however it worked out because I had pretty much a blank background). Someone asked where I got this screencap from..well Angel is only in the sun like a few times and this is actually a time when he wasn't in the real sun but on Cordy's set. Just a FYI. Blending and community update..
I really have issues blending icons/banners etc. I don't know if anyone else has this problem or if it's just a Melanie thing. Here is an example of a Johnny Depp blend I did not too long ago.. Also I posted some icons in some lost communties and I am going to see if I can get affiliated with various icon challenges around the net. I don't know if they will go for it but I guess it's worth a try. I wonder if if icon tutorial takes affilates because really we are a little different in that people can actually post their work and get feedback. Also we do have some members now! So yay! Mostly my friends but still I love you guys and that's how communities start. Oh and I finnally gave us some interests so people can find us through searching. ( I love my Johnny ) |
